Speak Red

As we close out February, American Heart Month, I’d like to recognize all who have or who are currently suffering from heart disease.

On Feb. 26, our ECPR staff was honored to attend the American Heart Association’s 2014 Austin Go Red for Women Summit presented by St. David’s HealthCare. The “Go Red” initiative promotes awareness of heart disease nationally, and seeks to inform women specifically to improve their cardiovascular health, as heart disease is the leading cause of death among women.

Of the women who “Go Red,” 90 percent have made at least one healthy behavior change, resulting in 330 fewer women dying from this disease each day. Yet, heart disease on average still claims the lives of nearly one in three women nationally, accounting for more than 440,000 female deaths per year.

AHA’s Go Red for Women urges all to use their voice to raise awareness and help make a difference in the lives of women.
